Oké ik ga niet liegen, ik tik aardig wat hokjes op het lijstje van Basic White Girl*. En al helemaal als het om Starbucks gaat! Eigenlijk ben ik dus al vanaf 1997 een beetje Basic. Want dat was het jaar dat ik naar Amerika verhuisde voor een jaartje college.
Ervoor had ik nog nooit een kop koffie gedronken. Ironisch genoeg werkte ik toen in het weekend als koffiemeisje in een meubelhal. Koffie en ik waren geen match. Dus toen mijn roommate in Californië voorstelde om naar Starbucks te gaan was ik ook niet echt enthousiast. Ik bedoel….getver..koffie! Maar omdat ik geen spelbreker wou zijn, ging ik toch maar mee in de hoop dat ze ook iets anders hadden. Er stond iets op de menukaart dat een Caramel Macchiato heette en besloot dat maar te proberen dan. Ik bedoel, karamel is altijd goed en ondanks dat ik tot vandaag het nog niet echt goed kan uitspreken (kort het maar af naar Mac ;)!), was het wel gelijk raak. M’n liefde voor Starbucks was geboren.
Het duurde even voor de Starbucks in Nederland kwam en vanaf die tijd ging ik regelmatig via Schiphol naar Amsterdam (waar in 2002 de eerste Starbucks opende). Dat hij in Arnhem nog niet geopend was, was maar beter ook voor m’n portemonnee. Want ik ben eerlijk, heel erg goedkoop is een kopje koffie er niet. Nu die wel in Arnhem zit heb ik een regel dat ik het alleen mag als ik op het station moet zijn en 1x per jaar na m’n controle.
Maar als we een dagje gaan winkelen dan is Starbucks wel een vaste prik. Ik heb zelfs m’n moeder zo ver gekregen dat ze tegenwoordig graag mee wilt. Dus ja, afgelopen vrijdag moesten we ook echt even de nieuwe Caramel Popcorn Frappuccino uitproberen. (aanrader!!! We zijn er zelfs voor omgereden naar een Starbucks met drive through… serieus wanneer komen deze in Nederland!!!!). Want ondanks dat de Caramel Macchiato een favoriet is (en dankzij dezelfde roommate, nu vriendin, inmiddels ook de Chai Latte en natuurlijk de gewone Frappuccino’s), ben ik altijd wel in om de nieuwe smaakjes te proberen. En ja als echte Basic girl…kan ik niet wachten tot de Pumpkin Spice Latte er weer is.
Afgelopen januari toen ik in Amerika was heb ik ook maar pumpkin spice gekocht zodat ik thuis ook low budget van een Pumpkin Spice Latte kan genieten…uiteraard wel in een Starbucks mok 😉 !!!

Okay, i’m not gonna lie, i tick a lot of boxes of the Basic White Girl* list. Especially when it comes to Starbucks! So basically, i’m kinda basic since 1997. As that was the year i moved to America for a college year.
Before that i never drunk a cup of coffee in my life. Ironically i was working in the local furniture store as a coffee girl at that time. Coffee and i just weren’t a match. So when my roommate in California asked to go to Starbucks i wasn’t really enthusiastic. I mean…yuk…coffee! But as i didn’t want to be a boring Betty, i went, hoping they would serve something else aswell. I saw something on the menu called a Caramel Macchiato and decided to try that. I mean , caramel is always good and eventhough i find it hard to pronounce till this day (i just call it a Caramel Mac ;)!), and..love it! And that’s when my love for Starbucks started.
It took a while before Starbucks opened in The Netherlands and when that happend i ussually traveled through Schiphol (airport) to Amsterdam (where the first Starbucks opened in 2002). That we hadn’t had a Starbucks in my hometown was a blessing, esspecially for my bankaccount. ‘Cause lets be honest, the coffee isn’t really cheap. As soon as it opened in my hometown i had one rule, i could only have it when i needed to be at the trainstation and 1 a year after my checkup.
But when i go shopping it is a musthave. I even have my mum looking forward to going. So yes, last Friday we really needed to try the new Caramel Popcorn Frappuccino. As eventhough the Caramel Macchiato is a favorite (and thanks to the same roommate, now friend, also the Chai Latte and ofcourse the Frappuccino’s), i’m always in the mood to try the new flavours. And yep, like every Basic girl…i can’t wait for the Pumpkin Spice Latte to be back.
Last January while visiting America i bought some pumpkin spice so i can enjoy a low budget version of the Pumpkin Spice Latte at home…ofcourse in a Starbucks mug 😉 !!!
