Buenos Aires
Met stip op nummer 1 en ik kan dan ook niet wachten om over een paar jaar hier naartoe te emigreren. Yep dat lees je goed, emigreren. Toen ik begin 2010 voor het eerst de stad ontdekte werd ik verliefd…de gebouwen, de wijkjes, de mensen, de way of life. Ik roep vanaf m’n 11de al dat ik niet voor altijd in Nederland wil blijven wonen. Ik heb veel gereisd, zelf een jaartje in Amerika gewoond, maar nergens voelde ik me meer thuis dan in Buenos Aires. Grappig is ook dat als ik in Buenos Aires ben, ik verblijf in een hotel dat Home heet en dat heeft ook echt wel bijgedragen aan de verliefdheid. Ooit plannen die kant op te gaan, het Home Hotel is echt een aanrader. Niet echt “on a budget” maar dat vergeet je al snel als je de sfeer eenmaal hebt geproefd van het hotel. Niks fijner dan je heerlijke ontbijt op te mogen eten in hun mooie tuin of na een lange dag de stad verkennen bij te komen langs de rand van het zwembad met een heerlijke cocktail. Daarnaast ligt het dus ook nog eens in de 1 van de leukste wijken van Buenos Aires, Palermo Soho. Vol met hippe cafeetjes en restaurantjes en zeker de wijk die op m’n verlanglijstje staat om over een paar jaar hopelijk te kunnen gaan wonen. Oh en als foodie kan je je hart hier ook echt ophalen, met alle invloeden van verschillende culturen en de samensmelting hiervan is het echt smullen. En, ja, het beste biefstuk eet je gewoon in Argentinië ;)! Dat Maxima dat allemaal heeft opgegeven voor onze koning snap ik nog steeds niet?!?

Los Angeles/Huntington Beach
Voor altijd een plekje in m’n hart (en een megatattoo als herinnering boven m’n bil), LA, blijft voor mij bijzonder. Een droom kwam uit toen ik in 1998 de kans kreeg van m’n ouders om hier te mogen studeren en nog altijd ben ik ze hier dankbaar voor. Niet alleen omdat het gewoon megagaaf was om de Beverly Hills 902010 lifestyle zelf mee te maken maar ook om de vriendschappen die ontstaan zijn en die zelf na 20 jaar net zo, of misschien nog wel sterker zijn geworden. Oh en als ik het over LA heb, dan eigenlijk ook vooral over de Greater Area van LA, en met name Huntington Beach. Want ondanks dat LA wel heel gaaf is maar op sommige plekken iets te gepolijst (Hollywood Blvd was in 1998 toch echt wel een stuk meer Pretty Woman “this is my corner” dan nu) en het vaak meer om status en het uiterlijk gaat, vindt je juist in de plaatsjes eromheen meer de California lifestyle van Daisy Dukes, flipflops en surfboards. Huntington Beach is zo’n dorpje en zeker de moeite waard een tussenstop mocht je een roadtrip maken langs de westkust. Oh en als je dat doet, ga dan zeker even een hamburger happen bij BJ’s of een fishtaco scoren bij Wahoo’s.

New York
NY, you either hate it or love it! Geloof me, in het begin dacht ik…daar zit vast nog wel een soort van grijs gebied tussen en toen ik er voor het eerst was en rondliep tussen alle hoge gebouwen dacht ik nog, ja is leuk maar love…Hahahah boy was i wrong, want ondanks dat ik niet zo snel verliefd wordt als het gaat om mannen is dat met steden toch echt iets anders. Slowly maar all of a sudden ben ik in die dagen als een blok gevallen voor New York. Totaal het tegenovergestelde van LA waar een meer relaxte vibe hangt, hangt er in New York een snelle energie. Ja, het lijkt of iedereen altijd haast heeft en dat hebben ze vast ook, want in de city that never sleeps is er ook zoveel te doen en te zien dat je bijna geen tijd over houdt om te slapen. Die energie is aanstekelijk en ik merk dat de stad zoveel inspiratie geeft. En natuurlijk is het ook gewoon een heerlijke stad om in te gaan shoppen…want wie kan zich nou inhouden als je over 5th avenue loopt. Zelf vindt ik de stad het leukst rond de kerst, de etalages, de lampjes, kerstbomen en als het dan ook nog begint te sneeuwen dan is het voor mij helemaal compleet (ja dit geluk heb ik ooit gehad!). Aanrader: de Macy’s parade op Thanksgiving…vooral als je Miracle on 34th street heb gezien.

Dusseldorf
Ik heb er ooit al een hele blog over geschreven. Deze stad die iets dichter bij m’n huis is dan de eerder genoemde steden is voor mij de ultieme shopstad. Ik ben vooral verliefd op de Köningsallee wat mij doet denken aan 5th avenue of Rodeo Drive en misschien is dat dan ook een van de redenen dat ik Dusseldorf zo geweldig vindt.

Arnhem
There’s no place like home! Ondanks de liefde voor de oude grachtenpandjes, de grachten, de kleine leuke steegjes en gezellige buurtjes in Amsterdam of m’n pas hervonden liefde voor Rotterdam met z’n metropolitan uitstraling, blijft m’n favoriete stad in Nederland toch echt m’n eigen kleine stadje. En dan eigenlijk vooral ook mijn eigen straatje. Gekscherend door Jochem Meijer ooit de Gazastrook van Arnhem genoemd en al bedoelde hij dit waarschijnlijk niet zo positief, is het voor mij juist de reden geweest om hier te gaan wonen. Want een multiculturele straat betekend namelijk ook heel veel lekker eten en gezelligheid. Toen een vriendin laatst een opmerking maakte dat als ik miljonair zou worden toch wel zou verhuizen was m’n eerlijke antwoord nee. Ik zou hoogstens iets eerder naar Buenos Aires vertrekken, maar m’n fijne appartementje in de leukste straat van Arnhem verlaten voor een ander huis in Nederland, nee dat nooit!

Buenos Aires
Definitely my no. 1 and i can’t wait to emigrate to the city in a few years. Yep, that’s right, emigrate. When i first discovered this city in the beginning of 2010 i fell in love…the buildings, the neighborhoods, the people, the way of life. Since i was 11 i have been saying i’m not going to live in The Netherlands forever. I travelled a lot, even lived in America for a year, but no place felt more at home than Buenos Aires. Coincidence has it that whenever i stay in Buenos Aires, i always stay in a hotel called Home and that has contributed to me falling in love with the city. If you ever have plans to go to Buenos Aires, i can really recommend Home Hotel. Not really “on a budget” but once you are there and feel the vibe of the hotel it doesn’t really matter anymore. Nothing better than eating your breakfast in their beautiful garden or relaxing by the pool with a delicious cocktail after exploring the city all day. It’s situated in one of the cutest neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, Palermo Soho. Filled with trendy cafees and restaurant and definitely the neighborhood i want to live in when in move in a few years. Oh and if you are a foodie you will love it here, with the influence of multible cultures and the melting pot of it all, food is to die for. And yes, the best steak you will ever eat is in Argentina ;)! I still can’t believe our Queen left all of this behind for our king?!?

Los Angeles/Huntington Beach
For always a place in my heart (and a megatattoo above my butt as memory), LA, will always be special to me. A dream came true when my parents gave me the opportunity in 1998 to study here, and for that i will always be grateful. Not just because it was awsome to life the Beverly Hills 902010 lifestyle but also because of the friendships made in that time that are even after 20 years just as or maybe even stronger that than. Oh and when i’m talking about LA, i also mean the Greater Area of LA, and especially Huntington Beach. As eventhough LA is amazing some place are a little to polished (Hollywood Blvd was in 1998 a lot more Pretty Woman “this is my corner” than now) and more about status and looks, you will find that the small towns around have a more California lifestyle of Daisy Dukes, flipflops and surfboards. Huntington Beach is one of those towns and definetly worth a break when you make a roadtrip along the west coast. Oh and if you do, be sure to go for a hamburger at BJ’s or score a fishtaco at Wahoo’s.

New York
NY, you either hate it or love it! Believe me, in the beginning i was sure there must be some sort of a gray area to that and when i first walked around between the tall buildings i thought, okay it’s nice but love…Hahahah boy was i wrong, as eventhough i don’t fall in love easily when it comes to men when it comes to cities it’s the complete opposite. Slowly but all of a sudden i fell completely in love with New York. Totally the opposite of LA which has a relax type of vibe, New York has this fast energy. Yes, it looks like everybody is always in a rush and they probability are, as in the city that never sleeps there’s so much to do that you almost have no time to sleep. The energy is contagious and the city gives so much inspiration. And it is ofcourse a great city to shop till you drop…as afterall who doesn’t want to when walking down 5th avenue. For me, i love the city mostly around Christmas time, the store windows, the lights, christmas trees and when the snow starts to fall it’s te complete picture (yes, i was lucky once!). Tip: The Macy’s parade on Thanksgiving…especially if you have seen Miracle on 34th street.

Dusseldorf
I once wrote a whole blog about it. This city a little closer to home than previous cities is for me the ultimate shop till you drop city. I mainly in love with Koningsallee which reminds me of 5th Avenue or Rodeo Drive and that’s probability one of the reasons why i love Dusseldorf so much.

Arnhem
There’s no place like home! Eventhough i love the buildings, canals, the cute little alleys and cute neighborhoods in Amsterdam or my re-discovered love for Rotterdam with it’s metropolitan feel, my favorite city in The Netherlands will forever be my own little town. And than especially my own little street. A Dutch comedian once referred to it as the Gaza Strip and he probability didn’t mean this in the nicest way, but it was definetly one of the reasons why i wanted to live here. As a multicultural street also means delicious food and good vibes. When a friend mentioned to me a while ago that i would definetly move when i became a millionair, i could honestly answer, no! I would probability leave a little earlier than planned to Buenos Aires, but leaving my cute appartment in the best street of Arnhem for another house somewhere in The Netherlands, no, never!
